Thinking about where I come from, I made this collage today.
Pictured in black and white are the Armenian Genocide survivors of my family: my father’s side is in the front row. He’s the toddler between his parents and my Uncle Movses is the child behind them. They were the only 2 survivors out of 16 children. My mother’s side is in the back with similar losses. The rest in between are my beautiful clan, both present and passed.
I am not just a proud Armenian in April, I am a proud Armenian EVERY DAY. The front and back rows are the reason why.
I pray this group picture will continue to grow with the same passion and purpose for our heritage. My hope is that our future generations will always take pride in where they come from and actively work to preserve that part in them.
On April 24th, we march to remember and honor every Armenian family’s front and back row.
They are why.
I am proof.
We are proof.
