The name Ani (Aw-nee)in Armenian means unique, beautiful and exotic.
Between the years 961-1045, Ani was the capital city of Armenia. It is best known as the city of a 1001 churches.
The background of this piece is inspired by the patterning in 13th century Armenian Khachkars (elaborate crosses carved in stone-a very identifiable form of Armenian art).
According to Wikipedia Ani is also used as a nickname for Anna.
